Becoming a multi talented person

‘The more things you do, the more you can do.’

What is a multi talented person?

Being skilled in two or more disciplines that may be innate and developed by an individual. Having various competencies in which one excels provides self-confidence and serves as an inspiration to others.

The term ‘multi-talent’ sounds like a person who is blessed from birth with multiple attributes that give them an advantage over others.

Talent is often seen as something given, and it’s believed that one cannot change it as a person.

However, it is becoming increasingly clear that skills are not as fixed as we once thought, especially when it comes to someone’s expertise or attributes, as individuals have significant influence over them.

Why become a multi talented person?

It is cool to have a characteristic or skill for which you are known. Moreover, it’s about the talent itself, being able to do things with great ease that others find difficult.

You may not yet be aware that a person doesn’t always possess just one quality, but often multiple. These may remain unnoticed because you are not yet ready to do something with them.

Having multiple passions and abilities allows for:

  • Increased self-confidence
  • Self-improvement
  • Being open to new challenges
  • Appreciation from others

Below is also a list of influential people who have multiple talents and thus show that it doesn’t have to be difficult if you really want it.

Multipassion = Multitalent

“Where your passion lies, so will your qualities.”

If you have interest in something, chances are you will eventually do something with it. This also means that you open yourself up to all possibilities and will strive to bring out the best in yourself.

Logical, right? But that’s the reason something also has the potential to become a talent. Yes, something can become a talent without any innate ability for it.

The greater your desire is to do something, the more the obstacles in your way will have to yield. You will give everything to reach a certain level.

If you can develop one talent, it can also be with multiple disciplines. But if you HAVE to do something without any enthusiasm, you will think about difficulties and try to end it as soon as possible.

Try limiting to ONE craft

What this means is that you can find fulfillment in a certain broad ‘field’ (music, analysis, cooking, etc.). You know that this is where your innate qualities lie.

Instead of restricting yourself to one skill, the art is to challenge yourself in a different direction.

If you are a writer, you can also try to go into poetry. This is just an example but it does mean that you develop new skills in which you already have talent.

This is the best way to expand your qualities and bring out the best in yourself.

When you already have multiple qualities, they often complement each other.

Think of musicians: You often see that musicians don’t limit themselves to just one instrument. Guitarists like Prince and David Bowie also sing, play and produce their own songs.

These are all different skills that fall under the same craft.

Knowing an instrument like a guitar also makes it easier to play other string instruments because the movements and techniques are similar.

Do you have what it takes to be a multi-talent?

Be careful, though. Focusing on something new can cause your existing skills to deteriorate. You will notice whether developing multiple talents improves you or causes stress.

Not that you couldn’t do it, but sometimes it’s better to focus on one activity. Because a skill, even if it’s an innate aptitude, can lose its value if you neglect it.

Your passion leads to skills

It sounds logical, but what you value most is crucial to pursue. You will notice that maintaining multiple skills can be a burden simply because you have to hold onto them.

So, pay close attention to how much time you dedicate to something in your mind. Does this boil down to just one skill? Go all in and put the rest aside for now. Once your enthusiasm for others starts to resurface, you can give them a chance again.

Can anyone become a multi talented person?

In principle, everyone is capable of having multiple talents. It always starts with one skill, and then others follow. It always comes down to a tremendous interest and desire to be able to do something, which then becomes a talent.

Are you born with several talents?

Having innate aptitude is often seen as a ticket to success. This is often seen in talent shows, where people are selected purely based on an innate gift of having a good voice and charisma.

Your upbringing AND genes do indeed determine a significant part of your artistic identity and your attributes. If your parents are musically inclined, there’s a good chance you will inherit it. And the earlier you start with something, the greater the talent.

When you were young, you decided to try things, whether it was a sport, drawing, or painting. You were drawn to something because you wanted to do it, not because you knew you would be good at it; that comes later.
